
Perry Smith received his juris doctor, cum laude, from
the University of Georgia
School of Law, where he served as Notes Editor and Articles Editor of
the Georgia Law Review and was the
recipient of the Newell Edenfiled Scholarship for his achievement of
ranking in the top ten percent of his first year class. Mr. Smith received
his B.A. in Political Science from Brigham Young
University .
Mr. Smith is a partner in the law firm of Barritt Smith LLP, where he
continues to represent employers and employees, and is a member of the Los
Angeles Superior Court ADR Panel. Mr. Smith has completed the Mediating
the Litigated Case program at Pepperdine Law School's Straus
Institute for Dispute Resolution.
As an employment litigator, Mr. Smith has obtained favorable
verdicts in jury and bench trials (with no losses). Mr. Smith has also had success in the
court of appeal, having recently obtained the complete reversal of a trial
court’s order denying class certification in a wage and hour
case. Mr. Smith has achieved
successful resolutions in lawsuits in state and federal court for
discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, wrongful termination,
unpaid wages, and other employment-related claims on behalf of major
employers (including Fortune 20 companies). Mr. Smith
has also represented many individual employees and obtained millions of
dollars in settlements and verdicts in their favor. Mr. Smith also contributes significant
pro bono hours to worthy defendants who cannot afford representation at all
or who cannot afford representation at current market rates.
Mr. Smith has lectured human resource professionals
on employment law subjects including discrimination and harassment,
employee privacy issues, wage and hour law and wrongful termination. Mr.
Smith has also written articles on employment law issues for various
publications.
